Feel the air of anticipation as you board the boat in search of maybe your first, up close and personal whale encounter! Even after having been fully briefed by the Marine Biologists that accompany you on your trip; you’re never quite be prepared for that feeling of sheer elation when you experience one of these huge creatures of the sea, breaching the surface of the water.
The Azores offers you the possibility of seeing a variety of more than 25 cetacean species that pass by the Azores Archipelago on their annual migration around the globe.
Full Day Whale and Dolphin Watching + Vila Franca Islet:
This full day experience takes you to the famous nature reserve Vila Franca do Campo Islet. This sunken volcanic crater off the coast of São Miguel has a perfectly formed lagoon, ideal for swimming and snorkelling. Enjoy the morning searching for whales and dolphins along the south coast, stop for lunch at a local restaurant in Vila Franca do Campo and then enjoy a few hours of rest and rejuvenation before heading back to Ponta Delgada Marina.
Half Day Whale and Dolphin Watching:
Half day trips out to sea will give you plenty of opportunity to spot whales and dolphins under the careful eye of the marine biologist guides. Using tried and testing spotter techniques, with staff strategically placed along the South Coast constantly on the look out for the marine mammals, you’re almost guaranteed to see something! It’s such a joy seeing dolphins and whales in their natural environment and it far exceeds any experience you would get seeing them in captivity.

Full Day Whale and Dolphin Watching:
Spend the whole day out on the ocean discovering the magnificent south coast of São Miguel with its incredible rock formations and of course watching dolphins and whales in their natural habitat. You’ll also get the chance to visit one of the main fishing villages of the island (Ribeira Quente) and enjoy a traditional lunch there, as well as having the opportunity to swim from the beautiful beach.
